Lucky Number 13

Element-blog-edited.jpg

Julie Dixon, a local entrepreneur came to us with a fully formed idea for a company - element 13 design. She has a great product, the infrastructure to produce it at any scale, and a great name. So we talked about her strengths and the personality she wanted to present, and developed an identity, a website and print collateral for her business. We helped develop a verbal vocabulary as well as a visual vocabulary and set her up with a professional look that can grow as her business grows. Visit her site here. http://www.e13design.com Her system is very creative. She has a great niche and has already started growing to fill it.

Water World

Teachwater.jpg

A new site for a great line of environmental education displays developed and manufactured by long time friend and partner in boat restoration, Mike Strohm. Mike has been an avid environmentalist long before it was fashionable and has always loved educating kids and adults alike. He has developed a series of educational displays to illustrate key water conservation and environmental concepts.

There are three different products that Mike has developed:

The RiverLab interactive watershed table is a lightweight and portable stream demonstrator that combines a specially formulated mixture of natural sand with recirculating water for the purpose of showing real life river and watershed dynamics.

The KarstLab is a hands-on educational tool which uses specially formulated salt rocks and recirculating water to demonstrate the dissolution of limestone and the formation of sink holes, caverns and underground streams.

The CreekLab stream aquarium is a high-flow, natural replica of a riffle and pool section of a local stream. State-of-the-art aquarium components and natural streamscaping materials are combined to create a true-to-life aquatic ecosystem.

We helped Mike develop and name, product names and logos, and now a website. This is the start of something really big and we're proud to be on board. Visit the site now and get your feet wet.

Closet Queen

TopshelfLogo.jpg

Here's a new mark AND name for our Mariemont neighbor and friend, Jill Mehl. Jill has run out of things to organize in her home so now she's coming to your home to help bring order to all those bulging closets. But it doesn't stop there: Jill will turn your closet into a decorated masterpiece. Top shelf materials (See how this works) separates her from the ordinary closet shop allowing her to create the ultimate closet for you. Drop Jill an e-mail and “organize your attire life.”

Fishing for Customers

purple-trout_logo.jpg

Your website's listing in Google and other search engines is determined by a number of factors. Potential customers "google" your product or service and typically select results listed on the first or second page. If you're not listed near the top, you might as well not exist. All of your hard work getting your web page just right is wasted unless people can find you. The answer: S.E.O. - three letters you should know. They stand for Search Engine Optimization and it is becoming one of the most important things you can do to make your website more effective.

White Design Studio has teamed up with Purple Trout, Cincinnati's premier S.E.O. experts, to offer our customers this important service. Steve Phillips, Purple Trout's owner, is a wizard at enhancing your site and doing the things required to get you ranked and keep you there. Give Steve a call at 513.885.5000 or visit his web site.

The Tool Man

readyTool1.jpg

We've always been proud of the diversity of work we do here in our little studio but last week we added a new category—Industrial Design. We were referred by a member of our accounting firm Ernst and Rabe to help out an inventor who designs and manufactures hand tools, and sells through some of the big box stores. He needed someone to engineer and draw up plans for manufacturers in China (There go a few more jobs) We not only modeled the prototype tool using CAD, but helped solve some of the design problems. Check it out! See more of these innovative tools and get some for your home here

Life in the Hamptons

AlisonChaceLogo.jpg
Another example of how White Design can be your one-stop source for all of your creative solutions. This time we have developed a brand for Cincinnati native and national model and actress, Alison Chace. Alison is hosting a series of DVD's about life in the Hamptons. Part E!, part HG TV, Alison needed a "look" to use not just in packaging but as part of the video too.

We started by creating a "bug" as well as a vocabulary of graphic elements that are used throughout all components. Employee, Thomas Dangerfield, even wrote a little piece of music and mixed it down for use throughout the video. Click here to see the whole package.

Alison stated it best. "White Design Studio easily rivals any design firm in New York City."

Thanks Alison! We think so too! Stayed tuned for more of The Hamptons Lifestyle Series.

Time to Pump You Up

Watsons.jpg

We've been helping local retailer Watson's for serveral years transform several departments including the Swimming Pool, Barstool and Home Theater departments. Now we have been asked to design an all new department for Health and Fitness. The Fitness Loft is the new name for this department and Watson's is the exclusive local retailer for both Nautilis and Bowflex. We created a new look for exciting new depatment. Fun translucent screens create mini departments for the various kinds of health and fitness products including weight machines, elliptical machines, exercise bikes, treadmills, saunas and steam rooms. Colorful rail graphics, black and white wall paper graphics all combine to create an optimal environment for the display and presentation of this new product line.

Sweet 15

White Design Studio 15th.jpg

White Design Studio is celebrating its 15th year, and I have the scars to prove it. 2 offices, 3 tons of furniture, 9 yards of peripherals, 18 employees, 63 computers, 437 clients, 1324 vendors, 4523 jobs, and an ever-growing repertoire of client services. WOW! The year we started, JFK became a movie, the Soviet Union became history, and Al Gore had not yet invented the internet.

As part of our celebration we've decided to feature a series of blog entries highlighting bits of White Stuff that we’ve pulled out from between the couch cushions. We even designed a little mark to commemorate our big event. Look for this on stories from the White Stuff vault.

Here's a shot of our first office. 400 sq ft and a MAC IIcx with 2 monitors. Yes, the large monitor is grayscale.
