Creative Outlet #2

IMG_6270.jpg

As is common with us, you know, creative types, all of us at White Design Studio have another creative outlet (or two) in addition to graphic design. Mine is painting. I studied Visual Communication Design at Kent State, which is a design-intensive program similar to DAAP here at UC, but I concentrated in illustration and still enjoy painting/illustrating on a regular basis. Every now and then, I get to show some of my work in a show, such as this past weekend's Upstart Art Show. It was a lot of fun and a big success. I shared space with other friends and artists: glass blowers, photographers, jewelry and collage artists. In fact, the show was so successful, with such a high turnout, there are plans to make it an annual event - possibly even biannual, with a summer show. I will post to the White Stuff when a new show is on the horizon!

You can check my personal web site for more paintings, too. www.danielschmidtart.com

Good benefits

The work comes in all shapes and sizes! This month we designed a series of brochures for the Indiana Teamsters Union that outline their health benefit plans. With specific printing and budget specifications, we produced some professional and user-friendly books that raise the bar in their industry.

Infrared hot!

MikronCollageSmall.jpg

I love the variety at White Design Studio. One day it's a frog mascot for a car wash, the next is an ad campaign for high tech cameras that see through walls! If you are not familiar with the "IR" camera market, it is pretty competitive - yet most ads you will see in trade publications look very similar. When we were asked to create a new ad line for Mikron Infrared Camera, our challenge was to elevate the design to reflect the professional and sophisticated products they were marketing. Now there's no mistaking a Mikron ad among their competitors.
